Police are investigating an overnight stabbing in St James

Winnipeg police are investigating a stabbing in the St. James neighborhood that sent one person to the hospital early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to the 1000 block of St. James Street just after midnight for a report of a fight and stabbing.

Police found one person with lower body injuries. Officers applied a tourniquet until an ambulance arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition and is in stable condition.

A second man was also injured, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

According to the police, the incident escalated to a group of people quarreling and someone using a sharp weapon.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
