Montreal CF beat Cincinnati 2-1

Joseph Martinez led Montreal to a 2-1 win over Cincinnati in the team's opening match at Saputo Stadium on Saturday night.

We don't know if Martinez will play in this match, but he had no choice but to come in on the 26th.e minutes later Matias Coccaro had to leave the match.

Coccaro, who suffered a visible injury to his right leg, asked the trainers for help twice before being substituted. Minutes before his exit, he was assaulted by Luca Orellano.

Regardless, Martinez accomplished his mission, as he has so often done in his MLS career. He scored his second goal of the campaign, setting up Ariel Lassiter's net.

CF Montreal returns to action next Saturday when they host Orlando City SC at Saputo Stadium.

Great back to school

The Montrealers said they were ready to feed off the crowd's energy, and their first half was excellent proof of that.

The visitors managed to make a small breakthrough in attack in the sixth minute, but then had to fend off repeated attacks from Bleu Blanc Noir.

Rouen and Mathieu Chaunier combined efforts early on, but the Brazilian blocked his shot against the crossbar. A few minutes later, Duke and Lassiter had a nice one-two, but the latter missed the target.

CF Montreal knocked on the door again on the 20the minute. After a free kick, the ball reached the feet of Joaquin Sosa on the edge of the area, but his left-footed shot was expertly saved by goalkeeper Alec Cann.

FC Cincinnati showed signs of life late in the half, but Jonathan Sirois answered back, reaching to deny Luciano Acosta from a free kick.

After waiting patiently in the rain for more than 45 minutes, Montreal fans were finally able to celebrate the end of the game. On the left wing, Raheem Edwards returned the ball into the penalty area, and Martinez pointed a low shot on target.

CF Montreal had a chance to double their lead early in the second half through Martinez. However, the Venezuelan showed too much patience and his shot was deflected by Matt Miazga a few meters from the net.

That was all Cincinnati needed to tie the score. Acosta showed great clarity with the ball and made a great pass to Kubo who easily beat Sirua in the 58th.e minute.

However, the Montrealers did not waver from this goal. Four minutes later, Martinez laid a table for Lassiter, who came in quickly. Costa Rica came in front of Cann and fooled his vigilance with a powerful shot.

Despite some tense moments at the end of the match, the defense of Bleu-blanc-noir confirmed the victory.
