The University of Denver Pioneers beat the Boston College Eagles 2-0

23 and forget me. Boston College ran to 23 and Matt in the NCAA men's hockey final on Saturday afternoon.

Twenty-three were the number of shots the top-ranked Eagles had in the third period on Calgary native Matt Davis, who stopped all of them to lead the University of Denver to a 2-0 NCAA men's ice hockey title. .

In all, Davis stopped 35 shots en route to the win.

The upset win gave the Pioneers 10 men's national championships, more than any other school.

As the team poured onto the ice to celebrate, the sound started a joyous celebration.

The Pioneers have six Albertans on the roster, five of them from the Calgary area, including Davies, backup goalie Freddie Halyk from Cochrane, and defenseman Kent Anderson, forward Rieger Lorenz and forward Carter King from Calgary.

Defenseman Cale Ashcroft is from St. Albert.

They're not the only Canadians on the list: Paxton Geisel of Estevan, Tristan Lemire of Mirabel, Massimo Rizzo of Burnaby, Quebec and Boston Buckberger of Saskatoon are also there.

The team also has many players from Sweden, Finland and Southern California.

The Hockey Commissioners Association named Davis the National Goaltender of the Month for March.

That Saturday, he was named MVP after stopping 139 of 142 shots.

Lorenz scored an insurance goal Saturday to give the Pioneers a two-goal lead.

This is Denver's second national championship in three years.
