Toronto firefighters use a raft to extricate three people from a car that overturned near the 401 freeway.

Toronto firefighters said they had to use an inflatable raft to rescue three people after their car flipped into a ditch early Sunday morning.

The accident happened around 5 a.m. near the intersection of the 400 and 401 freeways and caused the brief closure of the northbound 400 freeway to the 401 freeway.

A Toronto Fire Services A spokeswoman told 680 NewsRadio Toronto there was about three feet of water in the ditch where the car stopped.

The spokeswoman said the raft was needed to help transport people in the car to paramedics.

A spokesperson for Toronto Paramedics said the passengers did not go to hospital for treatment after the vehicle overturned.

The circumstances leading to the accident were not immediately known.
