The revolving parking ban will begin on April 15 when street cleaning begins in Calgary

The City of Calgary is asking Calgarians to help clean up the city's streets by observing a no-parking ban starting Monday.

“Beginning today, those in the first planned communities will see signs indicating the date of the sweep. Residential street sweeps will continue Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” said Adam Pawlak, director of mobility planning and operations.

“Spring cleaning helps reduce litter entering waterways and keeps our neighborhoods safer and cleaner for everyone. The success of the program is a collaboration between the city and Calgarians. Before the sweep, watch for signs in your community or call 3-1-1, or you can choose to sign up for email and text alerts at calgary.ca/sweep.

Pawlak also advises property owners with previous collections to place black, green and blue carts on lawns, grassy boulevards or driveways on sweep day.

Vehicle owners who ignore the parking ban can be ticketed.

“Calgary Parking also plays an important role in ensuring the success of the program,” Pawlak says. “Camera-equipped vehicles will help enforce temporary sweep bans, but parking enforcement officers will enforce these bans by making sure the community signs are clear and visible to residents ahead of time.”

“A good tip to avoid a ticket is to keep your car off the road during the restricted time, as street sweepers will be passing by multiple times,” says Todd Sullivan, Calgary Park Patrol supervisor and investigator. “We coordinate deployment with Mobility to ensure our cameras and sweepers work as closely as possible.”

Residential street sweeping is expected to continue until June 2024. The City offers back lanes (providing adequate spaces), driveways and garages as alternative parking spaces.

“Calgarians can also visit calgary.ca/sweep and find a scheduled sweep day using our address search,” says Pauliuk. “We also encourage all Calgarians to sign up for email and text message alerts.”
