Winnipeg police are asking for help in finding three men who assaulted and forcibly restrained a 27-year-old woman earlier this month.

“It was a brutal attack,” said Sgt. Andrea Scott of the Winnipeg Police Service's Special Investigations Unit at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

Arrest warrants have been issued for 35-year-old Joey Michael Oddie, 40-year-old Evelyn McKay and 27-year-old Romeo Chris Miles, police said.

Odie is wanted for attempted murder, assault causing bodily harm, menacing, robbery and forcible confinement, while McKay and Miles are both wanted for forcible confinement and robbery.

Police say anyone who sees these people should call 911 immediately, but not approach them.

The woman was attacked and tied up for several hours on Dec. 9 in an apartment on Carlton Street, north of Assiniboine Avenue. He was so violently assaulted that he passed out, police said.

According to them, the victim went to the building that afternoon with an acquaintance, but he did not recognize his attackers.

Two other people involved in the incident were arrested and taken into custody. Police are also continuing to speak with the person who brought the victim to the apartment.

The victim was tied up and forced into a garbage can

After the assault, the woman was forced into a dumpster while still restrained, police said. He stayed there, in sub-zero temperatures, for about an hour before being released after someone heard him screaming.

“I don't know if he freed himself without somebody helping him,” said Sgt. Sex Crimes Unit Officer Gary Mathes said at a news conference Wednesday.

Police obtained surveillance video showing the suspects putting the victim in a trash can, Matez said.

“It's disturbing and I think it's a total disregard for any kind of human life.”

The attack was reported to the police on December 10 after the woman was taken to the hospital. He has since been released but suffered significant facial injuries, Matez said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call investigators at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
