Martinez, Lassiter leads Montreal 2-1 over Cincinnati | National

Martinez's left-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom right corner of the goal was saved by Raheem Edwards. Martinez joined the injured Matias Coccaro in the 26th minute to score for the second time this season. It was his seventh career goal against Cincinnati (3-2-3).

Yuya Kubo received a pass from Luciano Acosta and found the back of the net for the third time this season, pulling Cincinnati back in the 58th minute.

Montreal took the lead four minutes later, Lassister capitalizing on an assist from Martinez, whose third goal was his first of the campaign.

Jonathan Sirois made three saves for Montreal – two in the first half. Alec Cann picked up a one-hitter in his first start of the season for Cincinnati.

Supporters' Shield winners Cincinnati have scored 29 goals in the first 15 minutes of their matches since joining the league in 2019. Seven of them came against Montreal.

Montreal's win tied the all-time series at 4-4-2. The club improved to 3-2-1 at home against Cincinnati.

Kubo became the second active player for Cincinnati to score against Montreal. Reigning MVP Luciano Acosta had just three goals coming into the match, including a PK goal in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time in last season's tie. It was the last rally in the history of the club.

Cincinnati will travel to Atlanta United on Saturday. Montreal hosts Orlando City on Saturday.
