Three things are impressive performance

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 31 of his 37 shotsth The Winnipeg Jets ended their career today with a 7-0 shutout of the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena. Sean Monahan (2G, 1A) and Josh Morrissey (1G, 2A) each had three points, Adam Lowry twice and David Gustafsson (2A), Nikolaj Ehlers (2A) and Kyle Connor (2A) all had multiple points for Winnipeg. A four-game journey through the Central Division. The Jets (50-24-6) reached 50 wins for the second time since the franchise moved to Manitoba. Winnipeg wraps up the regular season with two contests, Tuesday against Seattle and Thursday against Vancouver.

FIRST DOMINANT

After the first period in Dallas on Thursday night, there was a lot to be proud of if you were Rick Bowness and the coaching staff. As impressive as that performance was, today's first period in Denver was on another level. Winnipeg scored four times in the first period, with Sean Monahan (5:59) and Gabriel Villardi (PPG 8:02) making it 2-0 with 2:03 left. Then Josh Morrissey (PPG at 15:07) and Adam Lowry (PPG at 15:17) scored 10 seconds apart, the fastest two goals since the franchise moved to Winnipeg. Avs coach Jared Bednar then pulled starting goaltender Alexander Georgiev as he allowed four goals on 15 shots. The Jets beat the Avs 15-5.

“I thought it was great, took a couple of penalties, got the puck in the net, did everything right,” Neil Pionk said.

“He kept it outside, he was disciplined. So it was a good start for us, especially in this building.”

THE MAGIC OF MORRISSY AND MONAHAN

In big games like today, you need to see big performances from your best players. Josh Morrissey delivered with a goal and several assists against the Avalanche. Morrissey scored 10 goals in a season for the third straight campaign – only one defenseman in Jets/Thrashers history has posted that streak: Dustin Byfuglien (2013-14 – June 4, 2016-17). In addition, Monahan has scored multiple goals and now has 13 goals since being traded to Winnipeg on Feb. 6, 14th behind Kyle Connor in that span.

THE SECOND RACE

Dallas clinched the Central Division title with a win over Seattle on Saturday, with the Jets and Avalanche as first-round opponents. The only thing left to decide over the final two games of the regular season is who has home ice advantage. Winnipeg has 106 points and 44 straight wins; Colorado has 104 points and 41 wins. Colorado travels to Vegas tomorrow and closes out the regular season at home against Edmonton. The Jets host Seattle on Tuesday and Vancouver on Thursday.

“Yes, it is under our control now. Trust our guys, they worked hard all year. “We've had 25 wins on the road, so we've been really consistent on the road,” Rick Bowness said.

“Give credit to our guys, they battled all year to get us home-ice advantage.”
