The chef's table at Fusion Sushi and Osteria was damaged in the fire

A fire destroyed a Calgary building that housed two restaurants last night.

The Calgary Fire Department was called to a report of fire and smoke coming from the roof of a restaurant in the 200 block of 10th Street NW in Kensington around 10 p.m.

The building is owned by Fusion Sushi and Osteria Chef's Table, an Italian restaurant.

A second alarm was sounded due to the growing flames and the large amount of smoke surrounding the flames, officials said in a press release.

Firefighters attacked the fire from inside and outside the building, ladder trucks were used to get to the roof, and the fire was finally brought under control.

No one was inside the building during the fire, and there were no injuries.

“Depending on the type of construction, rescue and major repair work will continue to prevent the continuous spread of heat in the roof structure,” the report said.

A fire investigator is working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
