Game Summary: The Colorado Avalanche were blown out by the Winnipeg Jets

Ugly, ugly stuff from the Colorado Avalanche. No one wanted to see a playoff preview.

They were blown out 7-0 by the Winnipeg Jets on home ice, but all but lost their chance to gain home-ice advantage, at least in the first round of the playoffs. It was horrible from start to finish, Winnipeg looked like they were in a completely different league.

If there's any hope for this game, Colorado will be hoping they've gotten all the bad stuff out of their system. They also haven't played in three days, and a team plays better when it plays consistently every day. Here's to the final two games of the season.

The first stage

Due to the high energy in the game, only one team showed it in the first stage. It would be from the away team as the Winnipeg Jets dominated the entire frame. It started with Sean Monohan rounding Sam Girard and finishing a back pass to make it 1-0.

Nathan MacKinnon had to take a solo free kick with a man going down the hole. That led to another backdoor finish, this time with Gabriel Vilardi doubling the lead.

It's only gotten worse for the Avs since then. Girard went down the tunnel injured after a friendly fire collision with Ross Colton. Although Valery Nichushkin found the iron, it didn't lead to anything for Colorado and they couldn't try to save their lives.

Mark Schiefele should have made it 3-0, but they didn't have to wait long for a goal. Josh Morrissey scores after a Sean Walker penalty.

Before you know it, it's 4-0 Jets. Adam Lowry singled in front, frustrating Devon Toews and Alexander Georgiev. The latter of the two was pulled for Justus Annunen, who had enough to hold off the onslaught to make it 16-5 and up the mountain.

The second stage

With Girard out upper-body for the rest of the game, the shorthanded Avs still had no answer for the buzzing Jets. Defensive lapses, along with penalties, continued to kill the Aussies. They killed off Ross Colton's foul free kick, but Tyler Toffoli made it 2-on-1 soon after.

Colorado did not commit any fouls on Vladislav Namestnikov's penalty kick or Toews' shot on the crossbar. Instead, it will continue to rain for the Jets. Monohan and Lowry both scored their second goals of the game to make it six and seven with 20 minutes remaining.

The third stage

Both goalkeepers made decent saves. Annunnen denied Toffoli with a goal, and Connor Hellebuyck somehow managed to stop the Avs' chances, including the home team's third.

However, everything is set and defined at this point. It had shades of the 2014 World Cup between Germany and Brazil, which Germany won 7-1 in Brazil. Both teams played with little intensity, making this morale game a slow, long and hard finish for Colorado.

Takeaways

I don't know where to start with this. This avalanche was an absolute disaster from the start. It was very similar to Sunday night's game against the Dallas Stars, where defensive problem after defensive problem caused the opposing team to commit even more behind-the-back passes, killing their chances of making the playoffs in the next two games. results. Far from penalty kicks, gave up two goals today. No one came through in the first period, when most of the damage was done, and Colorado couldn't even do anything to come back.

It's a repetitive story at this point, but with purpose, man. Georgiev lasted only 15:17 of this game and missed four goals from 15 shots. The team in front of him didn't help, but the occasional save is needed. It didn't happen today. In the first match at the back, you now have two goalkeepers who are used for a brutal strike. Annunen was supposed to play in Las Vegas tomorrow, will they continue with this plan or go back to Georgiev, who has played much less than his teammate?

The main takeaway from this loss is how important it is to both teams. All that would give the Jets the win in both points and the tiebreaker, three more than the Avs in Winnipeg. The Jets officially sweep the season series 3-0 and look for four more wins against Colorado. It's officially confirmed that the Avs and Jets will take first place in the Central Division after the Stars beat the Seattle Kraken 3-1 in the first round. From what we saw today, it's only going to get tougher from here, and Colorado will have to do much better to avoid getting out of the first round.

Upcoming

The Avs return to action tomorrow for their final road game of the year against the Vegas Golden Knights. Puck Drop on TNT at 1:30 p.m.
