TORONTO – Another game, another must-win situation for the Detroit Red Wings as they travel to their old rival the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

While the Red Wings picked up a point Thursday night, it didn't help their chances of making the playoffs. Detroit rallied from a two-goal deficit late in the third period against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but that didn't stop Sidney Crosby from scoring his 1,000th career NHL assist on Kris Letang's overtime goal to give the Pens a 6-5 win. .

While their efforts weren't entirely wasted, two points would have been much more beneficial for the Wings. They are tied for ninth in the Eastern Conference with the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers, all just one point behind the Penguins. Detroit, Pittsburgh and Washington have three games left.

There is very little to play for the Maple Leaf. Sure, they have a chance to finish second in the Atlantic Division, but they would have to win their last three games, the Florida Panthers would have to lose their last three games, as Toronto is five points behind the Cats heading into Saturday. . The Leafs lost 6-5 against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.

It will be the third and final meeting of the season between the Big Six rivals, with Toronto and Detroit splitting the first two games.
