A small earthquake hit the Southern California desert near the Coachella music festival

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) – A small earthquake struck the Southern California desert Saturday near Coachella, where the popular music festival is taking place this weekend. No casualties or injuries were reported.

The 3.8-magnitude quake struck at 9:08 a.m. about 8 miles (13 kilometers) northeast of Borrego Springs in Riverside County, according to the US Geological Survey.

The epicenter was about 20 miles southeast of Coachella. It was about 7 miles (11 kilometers) deep, the USGS said.

A dispatcher with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said there were no calls reporting any problems from the earthquake.
