One of the most exciting tournaments in sports turns into two powerhouse programs as Boston College faces Denver to determine the top team in the NCAA this year.

Both teams have had their fair share of success, with Denver winning in 2022 and Boston College winning in 2013.

The Eagles are considered the favorite of the game, and when you see that they have more than a dozen NHL draftees, including some of the most talented forwards, it's hard to argue otherwise. throughout the league.

Keter Gauthier, Gabe Perrault, Ryan Leonard and Will Smith lead the offense for Boston College, which is an embarrassment of riches compared to most college rosters. It would be very impressive to have one of the aforementioned players on the NCAA roster. Having the number four is all the evidence Boston College recruiters need to show they deserve a raise.

Montreal Canadiens prospect Jacob Fowler will once again serve as one of Boston College's most important players. The freshman dominated the Frozen Four, posting a sparkling .942 save percentage, including a 32-save shutout against Michigan to guarantee Boston College a berth in the finals.

Fans familiar with Fowler's game will tell you to expect a stoic performance at the crease that doesn't lead to big-time saves due to his elite anticipation and superior control.

That makes him an interesting prospect for Canadians. Despite being a freshman, Fowler is playing with a 10-year NHL veteran. He is almost always drafted, frustrating opposing forwards due to the lack of high-quality shooting options.

Constant competition

While the Eagles are the favorites, Boston College would be foolish to take Denver lightly. Just ask Canadiens prospect Lane Hutson, who recently signed his entry-level contract after the Pioneers were eliminated in the semifinals.

Denver doesn't necessarily have a ton of elite players, but has plenty of depth, not to mention three players recently named to All-American teams: Zeev Buyum, Jack Devine and Massimo Rizzo.

It's also worth noting that Denver is one of five teams to beat Boston College this season, a tight 4-3 game that was only decided in the final minutes of the third period.

The Eagles should pay close attention to Buium, who is expected to be a top-10 draft pick in the upcoming 2024 NHL Entry Draft. The talented defenseman has 11 goals and 38 assists this season, matching Hutson's output. A few more games were needed for Buium, but we have to consider that he is still only 18 years old.

Sam Harris also represents the Montreal Canadiens in the National Championship. He plays a supporting role for the Pioneers' high-powered offense. Harris was selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft and followed that up with a 14 goal, 7 assist season for the University of Denver.

The 20-year-old freshman saved his best performance by scoring the game-winning goal in the regional final against Cornell in a semifinal matchup against Boston University.
