Calgary Stampede Canvas Auction Raises Over $3 Million – OkotoksOnline.com

Thursday night's Calgary Stampede canvas auction at the Big Four Roadhouse brought in big bucks.

The 44th annual event saw a surge in sales, with Chris Molle outselling all 27 chuckwagons for $210,000, up from last year's $170,000.

The total brought in $3.15 million, the seventh highest on record.

Local favorites also did very well, tying for third place with De Winton's Dayton Sutherland offering from Truman Homes winning $160,000. High River hometown favorite Jason Glass was hot on Sutherland's heels, next at $150,000, up from last year's $110,000 bid. Jordy Feek matched Steelhaus Technologies Inc's $100,000 bid last year.

Note that Dayton Sutherland's father, Mark, retired after last year's season.

The night also set a new record for highest average bid at $115,370.37, up from 2012's previous record of $111,528.00.

The sales total was the seventh highest on record, with 18 drivers breaking the $1,000,000 mark.
