TORONTO (AP) — A Toronto police officer was stabbed and shot by a suspect on the city's west side, authorities said Friday.

Toronto Police X said in a social media post that both the officer and the suspect were hospitalized and are in stable condition. They said the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. local time at College Street and Lansdowne Avenue.

The Toronto Police Association said in a social media post that the officer's injuries are not life-threatening and that he is being supported by the union and his colleagues.

Pictures from the scene show yellow tape and police cars surrounding the area, which houses a Tim Hortons restaurant.

Roads were closed in the area as the investigation continued.

The Special Investigations Unit, which handles cases involving the serious injury or death of a police officer, said more information would be released later Friday.
