Delays on Hwy. 1 west of Calgary due to vehicles blocking roads: RCMP

Mountaineers in Cochrane are advising drivers of delays on Highway 1 west of Calgary due to protests over the carbon tax.

In a Friday release, RCMP are warning that traffic will be slow on Highway 1 between Jumping Pound Road and Highway 22.

According to the police, four or five vehicles entered the highway and were driving at a slow speed.

Cpl. Gina Slaney told CityNews it hasn't been confirmed, but she believes carbon tax protesters are behind the slowdown.

RCMP are urging drivers to use caution in the area as they try to resolve the issue.

Protesters disrupted traffic on Highway 1 for most of the day on April 1. increasing the federal carbon tax.

The event, organized by a group called Nationwide Protest Against the Carbon Tax, was just one of many across the country that day.
