Did you know that our best Giving Day fundraisers over the years have been successful not because of a few big gifts, but because dozens of people—family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors—have come together. This is the strength of society. And we want from you Be a part of it on this day of giving.

Read on to learn about the different industries and initiatives that Day of Giving supports. But first, join BComm'09 alumnus Dan Allard as he visits Science A's penthouse suite to learn how he can help fight food insecurity:

Providing emergency assistance to students

UCalgary provides immediate assistance to students in crisis, helping them get back on their feet and focus on what matters most – their education. The Social Work Student Emergency Fund provides emergency assistance and basic needs support to students of the Faculty of Social Work in crisis situations. The Ian Holloway Student Emergency Fund likewise supports law students — and commemorates Dr. Ian Holloway's 13-year tenure as dean of the law school.

And UCalgary alumni have the added power to help students in need. This year, gifts were given to all graduates Greatest Student Needs Fund The UCalgary Alumni Association Board will match the award up to $2,500, and matching funds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Initiatives of local residents

The Faculty of Arts Local Student Income Fund promotes the recruitment and retention of Indigenous students in the Faculty of Arts with the largest number of undergraduate students, while supporting culturally relevant activities and intergenerational learning opportunities.

Faculty of Science Local People's Road Fund By offering individualized academic and cultural support through prerequisite courses, it opens doors to aspiring science students and guarantees admission to their degree program upon completion.

Verklund School of Education Books for the fund supports educators in creating an interactive web resource to help educators weave ways of knowing, being, and engaging with Indigenous peoples in teaching and learning.

Lifelong learning and community engagement

The Faculty of Continuing Education provides high-quality educational opportunities to people here and around the world to transform their lives and communities—and the Continuing Education Impact Fund supports equitable and inclusive participation in lifelong learning.

The Libraries and Cultural Resources Impact Fund will fuel a a dynamic range of initiatives, creating immersive learning experiences and fostering physical and digital spaces that inspire and connect. The foundation also supports youth programs, summer camps and internships.
