The Toronto Blue Jays have called up RHP Yariel Rodriguez

The Toronto Blue Jays will call up right-handed pitcher Yariel Rodriguez from Triple-A Buffalo this weekend, manager John Schneider confirmed Friday.

The 27-year-old has not allowed two runs against the Bisons this season, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out 10.

The team is currently without a starting pitcher for Saturday's game, the second of two games against the Colorado Rockies, but Rodriguez is expected to be involved in some capacity as a starter or long reliever.

Rodriguez, a native of Camagüey, Cuba, agreed to a five-year, $32 million contract in February.

Rodriguez pitched for the Chunichi Dragons of the Nippon Baseball League in 2022, posting a 1.15 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 56 appearances and winning the league's Most Valuable Pitcher award.

The Blue Jays host Ryan Feltner (0-1, 3.27 ERA) against Kevin Gausman (0-1, 9.53 ERA) on Friday night in their series with the Rockies.
