A sunny, warm weekend before the weather changes next week

Spring weather is expected over the weekend to allow Calgarians to enjoy some fun in the sun and get busy gardening and doing chores, but unfortunately the favorable conditions won't last long.

Clear skies and warmth are expected in the city this weekend. Some residents tell CityNews they plan to enjoy nature and the tranquility of the mountains, while others may rush to the patio, and some aim for gardening.

One resident says, “I jump to my yard work.”

“I'm planning to replace my winter tires and throw away my summer tires,” says another.

“Drinking with friends,” added a man walking his dog. “If it's good, you should walk him around here more.”

Friday saw a mix of sun and cloud throughout, but the weekend will be warm, with highs of 17 degrees on Saturday and 18 degrees on Sunday.

A warm weekend offers many Calgarians and visitors a sunny opportunity to explore the mountains.

“We came from Kitchener, Ontario to see a friend who was celebrating his 60th birthday,” says the visitor. “And then we're going to tour.”

But before anyone thinks the sunshine is here to stay, Calgarians are reminded that Mother Nature is still calling the shots, with some forecasters calling for light snow and rain early next week.

Snow is likely early next week

Snow is forecast Monday through Tuesday, but much of it may be too warm to stick to the ground.

Even so, Environment Canada meteorologist Justin Shelley says motorists in Southern Alberta still need to be prepared for changing conditions.
