Hutson signed an entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadiens

OTTAWA – Sophomore quarterback Lane Hutson The Boston University men's ice hockey team has signed a three-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens, the organization announced Friday.

A second-round pick by the Canadiens in the 2022 NHL Draft, Hutson had two outstanding seasons at BU. He has an impressive 97 points on 30 goals and 67 assists in 77 career games, leading all active NCAA defensemen. He had 15 goals and 34 assists for 49 points this past season, which was up from his 48 points (15g, 33a) in 2022-23, which earned him Hockey East Player of the Year honors. Hutson finished his BU career at plus-39, including a plus-30 mark in league play.

A native of North Barrington, Illinois, Hutson has the opportunity to become the 13th two-time First Team selection in BU history and the first since quarterback David Farrance did it in 2019-20 and 2020-21. Hutson was a two-time Hobey Baker Award Top 10 Finalist, a two-time All-Hockey East All-Star and New England Division I All-Star, and was named New England Defensive Player of the Year in both of his seasons. Hutson not only shined at BU, but also excelled on the international stage. He was named to the 2024 All-Tournament Team and was selected as one of his country's top three players after finishing as a plus-8 with six assists.
