Heading to Toronto? The work will affect GO service this weekend

Barrie Line trains will continue to run between Rutherford GO and Allandale Waterfront GO stations, but on a reduced schedule

GO Transit riders using the Barrie line will have to be patient this weekend.

The next phase of signal improvement work along the Downsview Park and Union Station corridor will begin this weekend, resulting in a temporary suspension of train service south of the Rutherford GO Station.

This means Barrie rail service will be temporarily suspended between Rutherford GO and Union Station, allowing for “critical” signaling work in the area, according to Metrolinx, which operates the rail service.

During this time, trains on the Barrie line will continue to run between Rutherford GO and Allandale Waterfront GO stations, but on a reduced schedule.

The improvements to the Barrie line are part of GO Transit's expansion program, which officials say will “transform GO from rush-hour service to a more frequent, two-way, 24-hour rapid transit experience.”

Groundwork for the second track, as well as other upgrades, will improve service and expand that service, Metrolinx said.

GO buses run between Aurora GO and Rutherford GO to the 407 bus station. People going to Union Station can transfer to the TTC Line 1 subway to continue their trip to Toronto.
