Murder suspect Brandon Noland Yellowfly has new legal representation, but that won't stop him from standing trial this November, a court heard Friday.

Defense attorney Gillian Williamson said she and co-counsel James Wyman will be able to participate in the four-week jury trial, which is scheduled to begin Nov. 4.

“We certainly want to keep the court date clear,” Williamson told Judge Glen Poelman.

He said he and Wyman will have to review their schedules to determine if two weeks of pretrial motions scheduled for October should be rescheduled.

He also asked Poelman to waive a pre-trial conference scheduled for April 22 so he and Wyman could be briefed on the file before meeting with the judge and the Crown to discuss any potential issues.

“In order to get up to speed, we need to disclose all the information,” Williamson said.

Williamson and Wyman replace former Yellowfly counsel Chrysia Przepiorka, who asked Poelman to be removed from the record because of alleged attorney/client relationship violations.

Yellowfly, 26, has been charged with first-degree murder in the June 16, 2022, death of Calgary woman Autumn Levi Cross Child.

The body of Cross Child, 25, was found that morning at a home on Castleridge Blvd. N.E

Police were called to the residence around 7 a.m. for a report of a woman in medical condition, but Cross Child was dead when they arrived.

Police have not released Cross Child's cause of death.

A charge of first degree murder, the Crown alleges, is murder committed during a select group of crimes, such as premeditated and premeditated murder, or unlawful arrest.

Yellowfly, who remains in custody, did not attend a brief appearance before Poelman.

If convicted, he faces at least 25 years in prison without parole.
