Car rental agency rents out stolen cars, then steals them back: Peel police

Peel Regional Police have arrested the owners/operators of a Mississauga rental car agency during a fraud investigation that resulted in the seizure of 22 stolen vehicles valued at $1.6 million.

The inspection was carried out throughout 2023.

According to investigators, the agency's owner/operators had “multiple duplicate vehicles that were leased to clients and fraudulently registered these vehicles through fictitious companies and corporations.”

Investigators say the suspects were involved in stealing the vehicles again and eventually recycling them into a fleet of rental vehicles.

“During the lease, the rental car will be stolen from residential roads, forcing the lessee to pay the lessor's insurance.”

“It was later found that these vehicles were re-registered with the rental company and re-screwed.”

Tamer El Gamal, 46, and Mohamed El Gamal, 38, both of Mississauga, are facing multiple charges, including possession of property obtained by crime, fraud over $5,000 and altering/tampering with vehicle identification numbers.
