Thunder Bay's former police chief has been charged with misconduct

Ontario Provincial Police have arrested and charged a former Thunder Bay police chief as part of an ongoing misconduct investigation.

The OPP charged Sylvie Haut with two counts of obstruction of justice, breach of trust and one count of obstruction.

The charges mark the third arrest in an OPP investigation into allegations of misconduct within the Thunder Bay police force.

A former police lawyer was charged earlier this week, and the officer in December.

The charges come after Ontario's attorney general asked the OPP in late 2021 to look into allegations of wrongdoing by members of the Thunder Bay police force.

The force has faced intense scrutiny in recent years after investigations into the sudden deaths of indigenous people found it was linked to racist attitudes and stereotypes, and others raised concerns about the ability of its senior leaders to run day-to-day operations.
