Sue Higgins Park attack under investigation, suspect sought

Calgary police are searching for a man accused of assaulting a woman walking her dog in Sue Higgins Park this week.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday near the north end of the park at 9770 15th St., S.E.

According to the police, the woman's dog was attacked by another dog, which caused an argument with the dog's owner.

As the woman began filming the altercation on her mobile phone, the dog's second owner grabbed her phone before pushing her to the ground and beating her.

“The woman screamed and the man grabbed her cell phone from the ground and threw it over a fence before fleeing in an unknown direction,” police said in a Friday press release.

“The victim sought medical attention for his injuries and reported the incident to the police the next day.”

The suspect is described as approximately 50 years old, between 5'8-6'' (173-183 centimeters) tall, with a thin build and short black and gray hair.

He was wearing sunglasses, a baseball cap, brown khaki pants and gray joggers.

Police released a photo of the suspect's dog because the victim did not take a photo of her attacker.

Anyone with information about the incident or who knows the identity of the suspect is asked to call police at 403-266-1234.
