“San Antonio Spurs” defeated “Toronto Raptors” and ended a 7-game losing streak.

Victor Wembayama had 27 points, 14 rebounds and a career-high 10 blocks for his second triple-double, Devin Vassell added 25 points, and the San Antonio Spurs snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 122-99 win over the Toronto Raptors on Monday night. .

Wembanyama made 10 of 14 attempts and had five assists and a pair of steals in 29 minutes as the Spurs won for the first time since Jan. 27 against Minnesota.

“I felt great today,” Wembanyama said. “Great rhythm, started the game strong. I think it's just the NBA, you know. We've had our ups and downs in form, and today was a good day.”

Vembanyama's previous career high in blocks was eight, coming on Nov. 18 against Memphis. He leads the NBA in that category.

“He did a little bit of everything,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “Obviously, he's a versatile, talented player. He has a great feel for the game and he shows it in different ways, whether it's passing or making decisions, blocking shots.”

It was Clint Capela's first triple-double with blocks since he had 13 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks for Atlanta on January 22, 2021 against Minnesota. It was also the last time anyone in the NBA blocked 10 shots in a game.

“I don't think there's any scouting report where he can block shots,” Wassell said of Wambayama. “I guess they'll learn one of these days.”

Since 1973-74, Wembanyama is the fourth rookie and first since David Robinson in 1990 to record a triple-double with 10 blocks since 1973-74. He became the first player since Hakeem Olajuwon on April 13, 1996 to record at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, 10 blocks and five assists in a single game.

Jeremy Sochan scored 16 points and Keldon Johnson added 12 as San Antonio snapped a wire-to-wire lead and snapped a four-game losing streak.

Tre Jones had 10 assists for the Spurs. San Antonio finished with 37 points, just shy of a single-season high.

Grady Dick had 18 points, Kelly Olynyk had 17 points and RJ Barrett had 13 points for the Raptors, who won their last six games against San Antonio. Toronto has lost 14 of 18.

Raptors star Scotty Barnes, who recorded his third triple-double of the season against Cleveland on Saturday, had nine rebounds and nine assists against the Spurs, but went 3-for-15 and scored seven points.

“It wasn't the standard we expected,” Toronto coach Darko Rajakovic said.

Barnes left the bench in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, drawing the ire of his coach.

“It's not the competitive spirit we want,” Rajakovic said.

Wembanyama blocked Toronto's first drive of the game, followed with a 3-pointer and an alley-oop dunk as the Spurs went on a 10-0 run and led 34-28 after one quarter. In the first game, the rookie had nine points, four rebounds and three blocks.

“I thought we fed Vic at first,” Wassell said. “He really carried us in the first quarter.”

Wassell scored 13 points in the second period and Vembanyama added 10 as San Antonio built a 67-50 halftime lead.

Wembanyama shot 7-for-8 in the first half. He made both of his 3-point attempts as San Antonio went 7 of 13 from distance in the first two quarters.

Wembanyama blocked six shots in the third period as the Spurs outscored Toronto 36-25 to take a 103-75 lead in the fourth.
