Calgary Weather: More snow expected next week

Daytime highs will be slightly above seasonal normal on Friday, with scattered showers possible across central and southern Alberta.

Temperatures will be above seasonal averages on Saturday and Sunday, with daytime highs expected to reach 17 degrees in Calgary.

Areas south of the city are expected to reach at least 20C by Sunday, with some communities such as Lethbridge and Medicine Hat likely to be warmer.

Unfortunately, this period of warm weather will be short-lived. A low pressure system will track the southern border of the Prairie Provinces early next week, bringing instability in the form of cooler temperatures and precipitation.

Daytime highs in Calgary on Monday will be slightly below the seasonal norm of 10°C, with rain changing to mixed precipitation, with snow on Tuesday.

Calgary's snow totals won't be significant and accumulations will be low, especially on the roads after such a warm weekend.

However, if this low “sticks” and the upwelling is more persistent than early models suggest, parts of southern Alberta could be more affected than initially predicted.

The biggest departure from normal will occur in daytime highs next week, with temperatures 10-12 degrees cooler than average nighttime temperatures, which will be -3 degrees to -5 degrees, or 1-3 degrees below the seasonal average.
