HAL SUBJECTS: Let's keep creating!

Intersections where all vehicles stop to allow pedestrians to cross in either direction were first used in North America in the late 1940s. But they were satisfied with the road engineers. Until 1973, the world's busiest scrabble began operating in Tokyo's Shibuya district. Although other Canadian cities like Edmonton started testing them years ago, Winnipeg is just now taking a look. The Public Works Committee gave city staff 120 days to come back with the best intersection for the pilot project, which doesn't begin until next year. Do we have to go through all this?! Also, why such a delay?! We know that coded intersections work. And in much larger cities and much more intersections. Osborne Village wants one at River and Osborne, so let's get it done there as soon as possible. And if it works (and I'm sure it will), then we can do it again at Portage and Main, where it probably makes the most sense. Why do we always have to research everything to death?! Let's look at other successful cities and learn from them. Sometimes you have to go for it.

THE OLDEST MAN IN THE WORLD

John Alfred Tinniswood, 111, is the oldest person living in Southport, Scotland, according to Guinness World Records. He was given this title after the death of 114-year-old Venezuelan Juan Vicenj Perez. Tinniswood attributes his longevity to “pure luck”. “You're either going to live a long life or you're going to live a short life, and there's not much you can do about it.”
