The video captures a worker blowing trash onto a street in a Montreal suburb

After a video of a worker blowing trash into the street went viral on Facebook, social media was flooded with criticism.

The video was taken Thursday morning by a resident of the Terroville neighborhood in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood on Montreal's east side.

In the video, a worker can be seen using a sidewalk blower to carry bags of trash left by residents for weekly pick-up to Hochelaga Street.

The video sparked outrage from a local Facebook group, with some calling the incident “disgraceful.”

“These actions are disappointing and send a very bad message to citizens who respect the collection schedule only to see trash bags ripped open by cleanup crews,” said Julien Henault-Ratel, Therroville City Councilor on behalf of the official representative. opposition party Ensemble Montreal. “This is a representation of the average level of cleanliness provided by Project Montréal for Montrealers.”

Still, county officials are calling it an “isolated error,” according to Noovo Info.

The district says it called Groupe Banco, a private contractor, to hire the worker.

“(The contractor) confirms that this was an isolated error by the operator who did not properly adjust the engine speed of his machine and made an error in planning his route,” the district told Noovo Info in an email.

The county also says it will notify subcontractors that sidewalk blowers may not be used on sidewalk collection days.

Clearing operations are usually carried out when curbside parking is prohibited to limit the risk of vehicle damage.

Residents who notice any discrepancies are encouraged to call 311 or use the Montreal Resident Services app to report.
