Steven Butler-Patrice Volney on June 6 in Montreal, Canada

Stephen Butler gets a quick result after barely bowling in his last outing.

The former two-time champion will meet compatriot Patris Volny on June 6. ESPN+ will broadcast the domestic middleweight clash from Casino Montreal in Montreal, Canada.

For Butler (34-4-1, 28 KOs), it comes three months after his last outing. It took him just 65 seconds to freeze Steve Rolls right here in Toronto on March 6th. The 28-year-old local favorite will now look to build on that momentum against once-beaten Volny.

Now in his tenth year as a pro, Butler has won two middleweight title fights. He faced Ryota Murata, the WBA middleweight belt holder at the time, in Japan. Their meeting in December 2019 saw Murat defend his title with a fifth-round knockout.

Butler then fought Jose de Jesus Macias (5 TKOs) and his career was on track. He won four in a row and became a contender for his second major title. His fight with WBO titleholder Zhanibek Alimkhanuly (15-0, 10 KOs), ranked #1 at 160, ended with a second-round knockout loss last May 13.

Two wins since then, including a quick blow in March.

Volny (18-1, 12 KOs) turned pro in 2016. On his way to the top, he defeated Albert Onolunoza and Ryan Young.

The 34-year-old lost his unbeaten record to 2012 Olympic silver medalist Esquiva Falcao in a six-round technical decision. Their November 2021 IBF title eliminator took place on the Terence Crawford-Sean Porter undercard in Las Vegas.

Like Butler, Volny enters this clash on a two-fight winning streak. He stopped DeAndre Ware in the tenth round last February 2 in Halifax, Canada.

This looks to be an exciting fight that neither man can afford to lose if they have any real aspirations to make it big on the international stage.

Eye of The Tiger will announce the undercard in due course.
