Calgary Flames forward Jacob Pelletier is out with an injury and will not return

Calgary Flames forward Jacob Pelletier left tonight's game against the New York Rangers after taking a hard hit from Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba. The play took place in the first period of the game when Pelletier came up the ice and drove out of the defensive zone. Trouba caught him with a huge blow and the young striker had to leave the game immediately.

The shot looked mostly clean, but there was head contact and Pelletier hit the boards awkwardly. Trumpet has a history of questionable shots and injuries to players due to his actions. He did not receive a penalty in the game, so it remains to be seen if he will receive additional discipline from the league.

Pelletier has dealt with injury issues in the past and has only been able to play seven games this year. He played four games for the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL and three games for the Flames in the NHL. He was originally selected by the Flames in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft and has shown to be a solid young player at the professional level.

Last season, he played 24 games as a rookie for the Flames and scored seven points. He was also the best every-gamer for the Wranglers, scoring 37 points in 35 games. In his AHL career, Pelletier has 45 goals and 102 points in 105 games, excellent numbers for any player, especially one as young as himself.

Pelletier will be a restricted free agent at the end of this season and is currently playing on his next contract. If he suffers another injury, it would be scary for the young player if he misses out on significant playing time.
