4 teenagers charged with murder in Winnipeg stabbing death

Four teenagers have been charged in connection with the stabbing death of a man in Winnipeg's West Alexander district, and police are looking for two more teenagers.

Peter Philip, 27, was found wounded on Nov. 11 around 2 a.m. on Arlington Street near Logan Avenue. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said in a press release Wednesday that the four boys — two 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old — were arrested between Dec. 11 and Dec. 20. All were charged with murder. .

Two other boys, ages 14 and 15, are at large charged with the same crime, police said.

Investigators say Philip was standing outside a beer vendor around 2 a.m. when a group of six boys repeatedly attacked him, one of whom stabbed him to death. Police say one of the boys pulled out a sawed-off rifle and used it to beat Philip.

A group of men then fled the scene. Shortly thereafter, the four teenagers encountered a group of three boys, ages 14 to 16, near Logan Avenue and Tecumseh Street.

According to the police, the gang attacked and robbed. One of the victims required hospital treatment for upper body injuries.

The group of attackers continued to wander until they reached Salter Street and Burrows Avenue, where they asked a 28-year-old man for a ride. When they got into the car, the boys beat the man.

One of them pulled out a gun and tried to shoot the man, but the gun misfired, police said.

They tried to steal the car, but the man pulled out a rifle, put the car back in control, and then drove to downtown police headquarters to report the incident.

Investigators identified and arrested six teenagers the following month. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues, police said in a statement.
