Brossoit clutch, Jets shine for fifth straight win against Dallas Stars – Winnipeg

Laurent Brossoit made 24 shutout saves and the Winnipeg Jets made a Central Division claim on Thursday with a 3-0 win over the Western Conference-leading Dallas Stars.

Winnipeg has now won five games and is tied for second place in the Central Division with the Colorado Avalanche, who have played three games into the regular season.

Nikolaj Ehlers opened the scoring with 5:07 left in the first period, past Stars goaltender Jake Ettinger.

The Dane's 24th goal of the season was also his 200th career goal.

Winnipeg doubled their lead with 9:20 left in the second period.

Dylan Samberg's shot deflected off the Stars' stick before hitting David Gustafsson into the back of the net. The goal was Gustafsson's 3rd of the season and first in 29 games.

Dallas' first two scoring chances came less than a minute into the second period.

Star defender Thomas Harley's corner kick deflected off the right post and under Brossoit.

There was plenty of offensive zone pressure for Dallas in the third period, but Brossoit stood tall.

Then, with the Stars goalie pulled late, Mark Scheifele put the exclamation point on the game with an empty net. It was just the Jets' second shutout in that span.

The Jets and Avalanche each tied for second in the Central with 104 points, but Winnipeg holds the tiebreaker with more regulation wins.

It hosts Winnipeg-Colorado in Denver on Saturday afternoon, the Jets' final road game of the regular season.

The pregame show on 680 CJOB starts at 1:00 p.m., with the puck dropping after 3:00 p.m.
