A 44-year-old man has been charged with fraud after allegedly switching cash during a Facebook Marketplace transaction.

Toronto police went public with the incident Thursday after the accused used the social media alias “Danny” to message the victim to buy items for sale.

Wearing a surgical mask, the accused met the victim at a pre-arranged location and gave them an envelope containing cash in exchange for the items.

“During the interaction with the victim, the accused (allegedly) replaced the envelope containing the cash with another envelope containing only paper,” said Const. Cinderella Chung said. “He then left the area before the victim realized there was no money in the payment envelope.”

He said investigators believe there could be more victims.

Florian Dinka, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with fraud over $5,000.
