Six fires broke out on the island of Montreal Thursday night, three of which police said were arson.

Firefighters said they were called to a second-alarm fire at an abandoned one-story house in Lachine around 12:30 a.m. The flames spread to a neighboring house, but no one was injured. The investigation was turned over to Montreal police, who said the fire was suspicious.

According to the police, around 1:30 a.m., three vehicles were called on fire in front of a house on Boulevard Alexis-Nihon in the Saint-Laurent district. By the time firefighters arrived, flames had spread to a fourth car and the front of the house. The fire was extinguished and no one was injured, although firefighters have not confirmed the exact cause of the fire.

Around 2:40 a.m., police were called to a home on Hanover Road in Mount Royal where someone had broken a window and thrown a Molotov cocktail. There were people in the house, which was slightly damaged, but they were not injured.

About 20 minutes later, firefighters called police back to Saint-Laurent, where a Molotov cocktail was thrown in a reception hall on rue Des Nations. Damage to the building is minor.

No arrests have been made in connection with the three fires, and no one was injured.

Two warehouses east of Montreal were set on fire, but neither firefighters nor police believe they were criminal in nature. Those fires were still active as of 7:30 a.m

“Investigators are busy today,” said Matthew Griffith, chief of the Montreal Fire Department.
