Calgary scam nets more than $1 million, police are looking for more victims

The Mounties in Cochrane are looking for more victims after a Calgary man was accused of defrauding people of more than $1 million four years ago.

Cochrane RCMP say they began investigating a suspect in 2020 after multiple people reported missing money. Investigators say the victims lost more than $1 million over the course of several years.

Scott Phillip Brooks, 50, of Calgary, is charged with 26 counts, including 17 counts of fraud.

Police believe there are additional victims and are urging anyone contacted by the accused to come forward.

“If you have confidence in Scott Phillip Brooks regarding an investment opportunity, the Cochrane RCMP would like to hear from you,” police said in a statement.

RCMP are reminding residents that if an investment opportunity looks genuine, it may be a scam.
