4 charged after RCMP seizes drugs and cash

Manitoba RCMP say four people have been charged following a drug bust in and around Winnipeg.

On April 4, Mounties executed four search warrants at a home in Selkirk, a hotel room in Winnipeg and two vehicles as part of an investigation into a drug-trafficking ring.

During the search, police officers found and seized more than $250,000 in cash and just over seven kilograms of cocaine.

The Mounties say the drugs are going to the Selkirk and Brokenhead Ojibway Nation.

“This is a significant seizure of a drug that will no longer be on the streets in our communities, as the seizure from the Selkirk residence alone would eliminate the transactions of 1,000 grams to 2,000 ½ grams,” said Manitoba RCMP Eastern District Commander John Duff. .

“Drug trafficking is a serious problem in the area and the RCMP will continue to identify, arrest and prosecute drug traffickers. Keeping drugs off our streets is critical to maintaining public health and safety, reducing crime rates, and preventing drug addiction among vulnerable populations.”

RCMP have since charged Jonathan Yuzvak, 41, of Petersburg, and Samata Boon, 33, of Wasaga Beach, with possession of property obtained by crime and trafficking.

Additionally, 33-year-old Tyler Johnny and 39-year-old Wesley Streit, both of the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, were charged with possession for human trafficking.

“I am pleased with the results of this investigation because it highlights the importance of our cooperation with the RCMP,” said Chief Gordon Blusky of the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation.

“Drugs continue to affect our community and these results are a step in the right direction to address the problem. Our leadership is committed to making the community a safer place.”
