Calgary's annual spring street clean-up begins Monday.

The clean-up will start at 8am on 15th April and will run from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays) until the end of June.

“Spring cleaning helps reduce litter entering waterways and keeps our neighborhoods safe and clean for everyone,” said City of Calgary Mobility Planning and Operations Manager Adam Pawlak.

“Thank you for taking vehicles off the street during the parking ban to help get this important work done. It's also a good time to remind property owners to park your black, green and blue carts on your lawn or grassy boulevard if you have a previous collection on sweep day.” .

Calgary Parking will use its camera-equipped vehicles to enforce temporary parking bans and make sure signs are accurate and visible to residents ahead of time, the city said.

“A good tip to avoid a ticket is to keep your car off the road during the restricted time, as street sweepers will be passing by multiple times,” said Todd Sullivan of the Calgary Parking Authority. “We coordinate deployment with Mobility to ensure our cameras and sweepers work as closely as possible.”

About $7 million is allocated from the city budget for the spring cleaning program.
