WINNIPEG – A woman is recovering after she was stabbed while waiting for a bus in the city's Osborne Village on Monday.

Police say the victim, in his 30s, was waiting at the bus shelter at River Avenue and Osborne Street around 7 p.m. when he was approached by a man. The suspect was also waiting for the bus and had a verbal argument with the woman. As the argument escalated, the suspect punched the victim in the face and then stabbed her as she struggled with the bag.

The victim boarded another bus for safety, called the police, and the suspect was found nearby and arrested at knifepoint.

A 48-year-old Winnipeg resident is facing multiple charges.

He was released pending a future court appearance.

Police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (204) 986-6219 or (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
