Calgary crews battled 2 fires and one person was injured

One person was taken to hospital with serious burn injuries after a four-storey apartment fire in the northeast community of Coventry Hills, one of two fires battled by the Calgary Fire Department on Wednesday night.

Calgary Fire says crews were called to Country Village Park in Coventry Hills around 11:15 p.m.

When they arrived, firefighters found an apartment building with smoke coming from a second-floor window.

Crews entered the building and found heavy smoke and fire extinguishers working in the unit where the fire started.

Firefighters searched the unit and found a man in a bedroom with severe burns.

A man in his mid-thirties was identified as the only person in the apartment at the time of the fire.

The whole apartment with more than 60 apartments was evacuated, and the crews ensured complete extinguishing of the fire.

CFD says the apartment where the fire started suffered heavy fire and water damage, while the apartment below had water damage and minor smoke damage.

Residents of the damaged apartments were allowed to re-enter.

Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours after the fire, but left early Thursday morning.

The cause of the fire is being determined.

Another fire broke out on Bannister Road SE as crews battled that incident to the northeast.

Firefighters were called to a fire at a vacant private warehouse building in Midnapore.

The cause of the fire is also being determined.
