Toronto broke the hottest temperature record

Toronto unofficially broke its temperature record for the second day in a row on Wednesday. The last time it was so hot in the city on October 4 was 72 years ago.

Environment Canada has not yet officially announced the record day, but temperatures at Toronto Pearson International Airport reached 27.5C, the highest since 1951 when the weather agency recorded 27.2C.

A day earlier, Toronto broke the record high of 29 degrees, surpassing the previous record temperature of 27 degrees set on October 3, 2001.

These temperatures are among the hottest ever recorded in October. According to CP24 meteorologist Chris Potter, October 1, 2019 was the hottest day in October, reaching 31.8 degrees.

Unseasonable weather is expected on Thursday, with the National Weather Service predicting a high of 26°C and a humidity of 29°C.

“Sadly, it all has to come to an end. It was inevitable. We all knew it was only a matter of time. It's going to be gradual at first, but it's going to be very noticeable over the weekend and then early next week,” Potter said.

“We're basically going to see a halving of temperatures and go from unseasonably warm to unseasonably cold.”

Fall temperatures arrive just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. Environment Canada is forecasting showers in Toronto on Saturday, with temperatures reaching 14 degrees before daytime highs drop to 12 degrees on Sunday and Monday.
