2 killed in UP Express train collision west of Toronto

A man and a woman died after a UP Express train collided in the city's west end on Monday evening, paramedics said.

The incident happened near Weston Road and West Eglinton Avenue.

Police said they were called to the area just after 10 p.m. for a report of a person who had been hit by a train.

They said officers found a second person.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a statement on X.

A Toronto police spokesperson told CP24.com that “it's still early in the investigation to determine how/why this happened.”

The investigation is ongoing.

After the collision, UP Express train services were suspended but later resumed.
