Calgary golf courses to open in 2024

It's vacation time in 2024 as the city of Calgary opens two courses for a beautiful weekend getaway.

Golfers can book online through the City of Calgary's reservation portal beginning April 10 at noon. Tee times begin April 12 at McCall Lake and Maple Ridge golf courses.

“The team has spent the last couple of days preparing the clubhouses, putting down the greens and getting ready to go,” said John Faber, manager of golf course operations for the City of Calgary.

“Both golf courses look very good with the original appearance.”

Shaganappi Point Golf Course opens early next week, followed by Confederation on April 19 and Lakeview on April 26.

The courses will be at maintenance rates, offering a slight price reduction, and the reservation time has been moved to 9 a.m., Faber said.

The city has had significant success over the winter, opening several planned locations for the Maple Ridge and Shaganappi courses.

2024 is a new loyalty product for golfers

New for the 2024 golf season is the Mi7 Golf Loyalty product. This allows golfers to play unlimited golf at a discounted rate at all seven courses in the city. The Mi7 is ideal for golfers who play more than 20 rounds a year, Faber said.

“This gives our customers the ability to really choose how much they want to save with their green bill,” Faber said.

“It's really for people who play 20 rounds and it gives them the greatest opportunity to save a few bucks.”

The Mi7 is available for $230 until May 15 or while supplies last. This product includes discounts of up to 40 percent off regular green fees and up to 15 percent off clubhouse concessions.

Faber said courses are prepared for the possibility of water restrictions and that it will not affect golfers' experience on the course.

“Does it detract from the overall experience for golfers?” No, said Faber.

“They're probably going to see brown grass and it's not going to be as green as they normally are. Greens themselves are valuable assets, so we water them as needed.”

Courses use soil moisture meters that indicate how much water to apply. The restrictions are at different stages, such as watering the rough, then reducing watering on the fairways, then to the tee.

“We want all golfers to come out here and have fun,” Faber said.

“We expect golfers to take over the online reservation system.”
