The streets of downtown Winnipeg will be painted white later this month, with the Winnipeg Jets Whiteout street parties back in business.

The return of the popular tradition, which coincides with the Jets' home playoff games, was announced Wednesday by North Truth.

Whiteout Street Party tickets go on sale April 17 for $10 each, with $5 from each ticket sale going to United Way Winnipeg.

“Enlightenment is coming,” TNSE senior vice-president Kevin Donnelly said at a news conference at the Canadian Life Centre. “We know the playoffs are an exciting time for our city, and the fans want a good partner to take it all in.”

The sides will once again engulf Donald Street between Portage Avenue and Graham Street, and 5,000 people are expected to watch the game on three big screens set up along the road outside the arena.

The parties, which started when the Jets reached the Western Conference Finals in 2018, drew more than 155,000 fans.

Those with tickets to the playoffs can also enjoy the street party and do not need a separate ticket to attend. Tickets for the playoffs of the first stage will go on sale on April 15.

Food trucks and other concessions will be set up outside for food and drink purchases, as well as live entertainment with prizes and giveaways.

Organizers are also bringing back the party at the Plaza at True North Square. Tickets for this event, which go on sale at the same time as the street parties, are $25, with $5 going to the United Way.

Proceeds from the 2019 and 2023 street parties raised more than $212,000 for community agencies, including N'Dinawemak – Place of Our Kin, Main Street Project, Velma House, Astum Api Niikinaahk and Bruce Oak Recovery Center.

This year's proceeds will go to agencies in our city dedicated to supporting those facing homelessness, substance abuse and mental health challenges.

The province will contribute $75,000 per round to support the parties, with the Winnipeg Economic Development Partnership providing an additional $50,000 from their special tourism fund.

“Our government is excited to be able to help bring the energy of the Jets Whiteout parties back to downtown Winnipeg,” said Premier Wab Kinew. “White parties not only benefit downtown businesses and raise money to support housing and mental health, they are a great way to come together as a community. I look forward to joining and leading the Jets to victory.”

The Jets punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup playoffs last week with a 5-2 home win over the Calgary Flames.

Winnipeg is currently third in the Central Division, two points behind second-place Colorado – their first-round opponent.

The Jets are on a four-game winning streak after surviving a third-period scare in Nashville on Tuesday with a 4-3 overtime win thanks to Kyle Connor's 32nd of the season.

The team is in Dallas on Thursday to play the first-place Stars before traveling to Denver for a crucial matchup with the Avs on Saturday.
