Tortorella called the loss to the Montreal Canadiens a “rock bottom” for the Philadelphia Flyers.

John Tortorella described the Philadelphia Flyers' latest loss as “rock bottom” as the Montreal Canadiens beat them 9-3.

“They have to answer questions,” Tortorella said of his team after the loss.

“I don't question their effort because it's been a strong group all year,” he added. “I feel bad for them because tonight was the lowest for us and after all the good minutes we've had all year, I hate to see us play like this at this time of year.”

The Flyers are winless in their last eight games and have fallen out of the playoff spot they've been in for most of the year. With just three games left in their season, the Flyers are two points behind the Washington Capitals and one game away from the final wild card, with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings between them.

Montreal led more than a minute into Tuesday's game, then broke it open in the second period, taking a 6-0 lead into the final frame.

“It's definitely a shame,” Flyers captain Sean Couturier said. “In the second (period) we gave up a lot of amazing layups, didn't respond defensively and they made us pay.”

Samuel Ersson stopped 12 of 17 shots before being pulled in the second period. Backup Ivan Fedotov stopped 9 of 13 in relief.

“We made a lot of mistakes. “There were mistakes in every part of the game,” Tortorella said. “You have to eat it and we have to come together and try to solve the problems.

“Is there enough time to do what we want to do to try to get in, I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about being a pro trying to get our dignity back.”

The Flyers close out the season with games against the New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils and Capitals.
