Quebec provincial police said Tuesday that the suspicious death of a woman whose body was found in an apartment on Montreal's South Shore is now being treated as a homicide.

The Sûreté du Quebec (SQ) says local police were called to an apartment on rue Toulouse in Candiac just before noon, where officers found the body of a 20-year-old woman.

Later, this case was transferred to the SCJ.

Radio-Canada says police are now questioning someone they call a person of interest.

Officials have not confirmed that there is any relationship between the victim and this person.

An autopsy will be conducted to confirm the cause of death, but initial reports show signs of violence on the woman's body.
