Severe thunderstorms are expected in parts of the GTA in central Ontario

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the Greater Toronto Area and parts of central Ontario.

Newmarket, Georgina, North York Region, Uxbridge, Beaverton and North Durham Region are under a weather warning, as are Barrie, Collingwood and Orillia.

“Conditions are favorable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms with strong wind gusts and damaging hail,” Environment Canada said.

“Severe thunderstorms have developed in several areas and may continue this evening as a cold front approaches.”

Environment Canada added that severe thunderstorms could drop nickel-sized hail.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were in effect later in the evening, but they have all ended.

There are no weather warnings in effect for Toronto. The city will be sunny on Wednesday, with a maximum temperature of 17 degrees.

And it is predicted to rain on Thursday. On Friday, the temperature will stay up to 9 degrees.
