Crap and hilarity are on the menu at Valentine's Pirate Wedding in Calgary – Calgary

Some Calgarians are doing something special for Valentine's this year.

They encourage people to go beyond traditional chocolates and flowers when it comes to romance.

Jane Bond BBQ is hosting a pirate-themed event at a special events venue downtown.

Dubbed the Pirate Wedding, the event is billed as an interactive dinner show experience.

The evening's captain, Brendan Hunter, is a veteran Calgary performer who hosts the show.

“It's a very moving experience for them to come and join the bandits,” Hunter said. “They attend a wedding, but things don't go as planned. So shall we have a marriage or a rebellion? The audience will decide.”

“Pirates are the underdogs of the world and I think that's a great barometer. We all want to join. We all want love. We're all plugged in, but we want a place where we can be us like never before,” Hunter said. “I think the life of a pirate, especially the cartoon version, can be celebrated – just the way it is.”

Jane Bond BBQ Adrienne Keith says the pirate theme makes for a good setting for romance.

“It's hot and fiery and there are beaches, it's romantic,” Keith said. “Here we are in Canada fighting through the winter.”
