Stoney Creek murder: Victim's son arrested in Toronto

A 22-year-old man wanted for first-degree murder in connection with the death of his father in Stoney Creek over the weekend has been arrested in Toronto.

The incident happened on Saturday evening near Trafalgar Drive and West Clay Street.

Hamilton police said they were called to a home in the area around 7:40 p.m. after receiving reports of a 56-year-old man with serious injuries.

The victim, identified by police as Kuldeep Singh, was taken to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

On Monday morning, investigators said the suspect left the scene in a blue 2022 Ford Edge with Quebec license plate FSC 7432. The company's hire car was last seen traveling north on Trafalgar towards Mud Street.

Police soon identified the suspect as Sukhraj Cheema-Singh, the son of the murdered man.

They later said Cheema-Singh was arrested in North York, near Dufferin Street and Eglinton Avenue West, just before 3 a.m. Monday. Police said he was still driving.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on February 13.
