We are continuing to investigate the fatal collision that occurred over the weekend.

On Saturday, February 10, 2024 at approximately 6:45 p.m., a collision occurred at the intersection of 24th Avenue SW and 162nd Avenue SW.

At the time, the 48-year-old woman was traveling southbound from the northeast corner of the intersection to the southeast corner and was believed to be in or near the marked crosswalk.

Meanwhile, a maroon 2009 Honda Pilot driven by a 49-year-old woman was traveling south on 24th Street when she turned east onto 162nd Avenue.

The Honda crossed two eastbound lanes and came to a stop in the northbound median before crossing into the eastbound lane, striking a pedestrian and colliding with a bus shelter.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition and pronounced dead a short time later.

The Honda driver was not injured in the collision.

Impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in this collision.
